Abstract

  • By using the new base year (2007 = 100), in October 2008 there was inflation of Kendari City of 0.91 percent with the consumer price index (CPI) of 117.65. Of the 66 cities, 53 cities experienced inflation and 13 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Palangkaraya at 1.71 percent with the CPI of 116.13 and the lowest occurring in Palu 0.03 percent with the CPI of 115.16. The largest deflation occurred in Ambon City 1.63 percent with CPI 114.38 and the smallest occurred in Jambi City 0.03 percent with CPI 114.87.
  •  Inflation was attributable to price increases as indicated by the increase in index in the following categories of goods and services: foodstuffs 2.12 percent, food, beverages, cigarettes & tobacco 0.98 percent, housing, water, electricity, gas & 0.54 percent of fuel, clothing group 1.62 percent and education, recreation and sports 0.08 percent. For the other two groups, the health group and the transport, communication & financial services group remained stable.
  •  The inflation rate for calendar year (January-October) 2008 was 15.48 percent, while the inflation rate "year on year" (October 2008 to October 2007) was 16.43 percent.
