Abstract

  • By using the new base year (2007 = 100), in August 2008 there was inflation of Kendari at -0.06 percent with the consumer price index (CPI) of 114.79. Of the 66 cities, recorded 60 cities experienced inflation and 6 cities deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Mamuju 3.21 percent with CPI of 117.56 and the lowest occurred in Pematang Siantar 0.02 percent with CPI of 111.49. The biggest deflation occurred in Kupang, which was 0.97 percent
  •  Deflation occurred because of the decline in prices as indicated by the decline in index in the following goods and services categories: foodstuff category -1.36 percent and clothing group -1.01 percent. For finished food, beverages, cigarette & tobacco category increased by 0.52 percent, housing, water, electricity, gas & fuel 0.67 percent, health group 0.07 percent, education, recreation and sports group 0.97 percent as well as the transportation, communication & financial services group 0.44 percent.
  •  The inflation rate for calendar year (January-August) 2008 was 12.67 percent, while the inflation rate "year on year" (August 2008 to August 2007) was 13.98 percent.
