Abstract

  • In October 2011, there was a deflation of 2.98 percent in Kendari with Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 134.09. Of 66 cities calculating inflation, 32 cities experienced inflation and 34 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Kota Bima by 0.97 percent with CPI of 137.79 and the lowest occurring in Madiun at 0.01 percent with CPI 132.34. Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Kendari City of 2.98 percent.
  • Deflation occurred because of the decline in prices indicated by the decline of the index in the foodstuff category 9.51 percent; clothing 1.90 percent; transportation, communication and financial services 0.96 percent and education, recreation and sports 0.04 percent. Although other expenditure groups showed improvements such as housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group 0.21 percent, health group 0.13 percent and food, tobacco and tobacco 0.08 percent.
  • The inflation rate for calendar year (January-October) 2011 was 5.08 percent and the year-on-year (October 2011 to October 2010) inflation rate was 5.21 percent.
  • The national deflation in October 2011 was 0.12 percent, the calendar year inflation rate (January-October) 2011 was 2.85 percent, the year-on-year inflation rate (September 2011 to September 2010) was 4.42 percent.
