Abstract

In August 2014 in Kendari City, recorded negative inflation (deflation) of 0.11 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 110.57. Out of 82 CPI cities, 66 cities recorded inflation and 16 cities recorded deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Tanjung Pandan (Bengkulu Province) of 1.98 percent with CPI of 121.24 and the lowest recorded in Banjarmasin (East Kalimantan Province) 0.02 percent with CPI of 111.63. The largest deflation was recorded in Ternate (North Maluku Province) of 1.02 percent with the CPI of 116.00 and the smallest in Samarinda (East Kalimantan Province) 0.01 percent with CPI 115.17.
Deflation was due to a drop in the foodstuff index of 1.06 percent; clothing group 0.61 percent and food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco 0.01 percent. While the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel groups; education, recreation and sports groups; transport, communication, and financial services and healthcare groups increased by 0.55 percent; 0.24 percent; 0.16 percent and 0.01 percent.
The commodities that contribute the biggest deflation are Muslim clothing; Cayenne pepper; long beans; mustard greens; banana; red onion; banana heart; spinach; kangkung and kite.
The commodities that contributed to the largest inflation were electricity tariffs; bloated; anchovy; air transport; blouse; yellow tail; tuna; rambe; men's underwear and jeans trousers.
Of the eleven cities on Sulawesi Island, 4 cities recorded deflation and 7 cities recorded inflation. The largest deflation was recorded in Gorontalo (Gorontalo Province) 0,52 percent with CPI 109,59. and the smallest deflation was recorded in Kendari (Southeast Sulawesi Province) 0.11 percent with CPI of 110.57. While the highest inflation was recorded in Baubau (Southeast Sulawesi Province) 1.50 percent with CPI 116.21.
The inflation rate of Kendari City in the calendar year (January-August) 2014 is 2.23 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (August 2014 to August 2013) is 0.31 percent.
