Abstract

  • The deflation of Kendari City in August 2017 was 1.48 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 126.86. Nationally from 82 cities counting inflation, forty-seven cities recorded deflation and thirty-five cities recorded inflation. The highest deflation was recorded in Ambon (Maluku Province) 2.08 percent and the lowest deflation recorded in Samarinda (East Kalimantan Province) 0.03 percent. Meanwhile, the largest inflation recorded in Lhokseumawe (Province of Aceh) was 1.09 percent.
  • The deflation in Kendari was caused by the decrease of the price index in the foodstuff category by 5.11 percent and transport, communication and financial services by 0.81 percent. While the inflation recorded group of finished goods, beverages, cigarettes, and tobacco was 0.24 percent; Health 0.15 percent; Education, recreation, and sports 0.10 percent; Housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel and clothing respectively 0.02 percent.
  • Commodities contributing to the largest deflation are kites / bengkol, skipjack / scales, spinach, air transport, teri, rambe, yellow tail, katamba, green mustard and kale.
  • Commodities contributing to inflation are milkfish, vegetable tomatoes, men's short cotton shirts, white bread, chicken meat, moringa leaves, banana heart, lime, children's school uniform and tembang.
  • Of the eleven cities on the island of Sulawesi, six cities recorded deflation and five cities recorded inflation. The highest deflation was recorded in Baubau (Southeast Sulawesi Province) 1.76 percent with CPI 132.46 and the lowest deflation recorded in Manado (North Sulawesi Province) 0.21 percent with CPI 129.61.
  • The inflation rate of Kendari City in the calendar year (January-August) 2017 was 4.26 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (August 2017 to August 2016) was 4.27 percent.
  • The inflation rate in the same period of August 2016 was 0.01 percent, the calendar year (January - August) 2016 was 3.05 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate for August 2016 against August 2015 was 3.73 percent.
