Abstract

By using new base year (2007 = 100), in July 2008 there was inflation of Kendari at 1.77 percent with consumer price index (CPI) of 114.86. Of the 66 cities, all cities recorded inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Manokwari 4.33 percent with CPI of 117.45 and the lowest occurred in Banda Aceh 0.25 percent with CPI of 110.82.
Inflation was attributable to price increases as indicated by the increase in index in the following categories of goods and services: foodstuffs 4.77 percent, food, beverages, cigarettes & tobacco 0.12 percent, housing, water, electricity, gas & fuel 1.33 percent, clothing group 1.39 percent, health group 0.29 percent, education, recreation and sports 1.02 percent and transportation, communication & financial services 0.31 percent.
The inflation rate for calendar year (January-July) 2008 was 12.74 percent, while the year-on-year inflation rate (July 2008 to July 2007) was 13.40 percent.
