Abstract

In March 2023 there was a year on year (yoy) combined year on year (yoy) CPI inflation for 2 cities with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 115.69. The highest yoy inflation occurred in Tual at 7.49 percent with a CPI of 117.19 and the lowest occurred in Merauke at 3.17 percent with a CPI of 112.59.
  • Year on year (yoy) inflation occurred due to price increases as indicated by increases in most of the expenditure group indices, namely: the transportation group by 21.99 percent; the education group by 8.00 percent; the food, beverage and tobacco group by 5.22 percent; equipment, tools, and household routine maintenance group of 4.87 percent; personal care and other services group of 4.10 percent; the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group by 3.43 percent; the clothing and footwear group by 2.00 percent; recreation, sport and culture group by 1.99 percent; the group providing food and drink/restaurants by 1.90 percent; and the health group by 1.48 percent. Meanwhile, the expenditure group that experienced a decrease in index was the information, communication and financial services group by 0.10 percent.
  • The combined inflation rate for the 2 CPI cities month to month (mtm) is 0.51 percent and the March 2023 year to date (ytd) inflation rate is -0.14 percent.
  • Commodities contributing to yoy inflation include air transportation, gasoline, rice, inner-city transportation, household fuel, filter clove cigarettes, academies/universities, cars, cooking oil and mackerel/bloated fish/banyar fish/gembolo fish/ aso-aso fish.
  • Commodities that contributed to the yoy deflation included anchovies, spinach, cakalang fish/fish scales, flying fish/enggol fish, purebred chicken meat, moringa leaves, young papaya, headscarves/veils, rambe fish and tembang fish.
